Evolution Cedrus Adapters

Evolution Cedrus adapters feature press-fit 10mm stainless steel pins for additional stiffness and strength with Evolution Surf and Wind masts. They ship with standard A4-80 high strength stainless hardware, or you can upgrade to 6/4 Titanium PVD coated Torx fasteners.

PVD coated Ti hardware has multiple advantages. 1) the PVD coating improves lubricity, reducing friction and making it easier to achieve optimal torque levels. 2) Reduced corrosion when in contact with aluminum. While threads in the mast are stainless, corrosion can occur between the head of the bolt and the aluminum adapter if not properly cared for. This is the primary reason Titanium hardware is used with all Evolution Mounts. 3) Reduced weight. Titanium hardware is about half the weight of steel. 4) Increased strength and fatigue properties. 6/4 Titanium (Grade 5) hardware is stronger and more fatigue resistant than even the A4-80 standard hardware. Please note that Grade 2 is not. 5) Gold 6/4 Ti Hardware comes with a patch of thread-locker applied, good for at least 3 uses. While hardware loosening is much less likely to occur with the Evolution interface, the thread-locker provides additional insurance.

Installation: When attaching your adapter, we recommend 20N*m of torque is applied. This is relatively high amount of force with a hand tool. Do not use impact drivers, power tools, or super long-span wrenches to connect adapters. Cedrus is not liable for loss or damage due to improper hardware used with adapters. At this time, we recommend and warranty only supplied hardware. Standard A2-70 stainless fasteners can be used in a pinch, but due to lower strength we recommend changing them more frequently. If your adapter is difficult to remove after extended installation, simply remove the connecting hardware to the mast, attach a fuselage, and use the additional leverage to work the pins out of the mast. Do not pry, force, hammer, or attempt to jam the adapter out. A little olive oil can be used to ensure easy installation and dis-assembly. Tef-Gel, Lanocote, and other sailing lubricants are also great options. Just be sure to keep sand and other debris away from the joint when connecting the adapter as the pins are a precision slip fit with no room for debris. During extended periods of non-use, we recommend adapter removal and heavy rinsing and drying of all components.

If connecting carbon wings to an aluminum fuselage (eg. Armstrong), it is important to understand the potential for galvanic corrosion. Use lubricants, and always remove wings when not in use. We have seen corrosion between aluminum fuselages and carbon wings even on OEM setups. With proper care, it can be avoided.

As discussed on the blog, Project Cedrus will always strive to be a universal foil system however it’s not always possible to maintain compatibility with every single connection ever produced.

Furthermore, despite tight machining tolerances of all adapters, it may be necessary to shim adapters due to the looser tolerances of OEM molded components. In many cases, the CAD for our adapters are supplied directly from the OEM brands.

Finally, please understand the use of all M6 hardware connections are at your own risk. Project Cedrus cannot assume any responsibility for lost foils due to M6 hardware failures, which are common even on OEM setups due to ever increasing wing spans and loads due to aggressive wing foiling. There is a reason major brands from SAB to Takuma have transitioned to M8 hardware.

Use the “contact us” page to request additional information regarding adapters and compatibility; we will do our best to make Project Cedrus compatible with your desired wings! Please do NOT contact us regarding adapters for other brands’ masts. We cannot design and fabricate adapters for masts other than Project Cedrus. Thank you for your understanding.

Please note that Classic Adapters are not compatible with the new Evolution Cedrus mast series.

Please note that in very rare instances, brands can change their fuselage connection designs which prevent compatibility with Project Cedrus. For this reason, Project Cedrus cannot be fully guaranteed as forward compatible with every brand and every foil connection. We will do our best to make Project Cedrus work with your favorite wings, but there may be additional costs depending on the complexity and availability of the connection system. For example, EU-based direct-to-consumer foil brands without a presence in the US can be challenging to design around. You can aid the process by requesting CAD from the brand, and will be responsible for shipping charges of equipment for reverse-engineering. Project Cedrus will always be compatible with the most popular foil ecosystems, and adapter prices for these popular brands will remain as low and fair as possible to maximize value of your mast.

  1. Steve

I also think that the increased stiffness [of Evolution masts] is a result of the adapters. I only have the Unifoil and Cloud9 adapters right now. I have used both and they fit perfectly. Absolutely no play or flex. My first ride on this mast I thought I was on a new wing. The control was increased and no slop at all in the turns. Using M8 bolts and adding pins to the adapter increases the weight, but the stiffness and precision of the fit make up for that. Also, it comes with titanium bolts which saves weight.
